Go Go Globetrotters
Although the Harlem Globetrotters were initially formed in 1927, the
franchise's most famous line-up occurred during the mid-sixties to
late-seventies, with such memorable players as Meadowlark Lemon, Curly
Neal, and Geese Ausbie. These ball dribbling, basket shooting hot-shots
were so popular that they burned up the court on their own television
cartoon shows, as well as a live action series called The Harlem Globetrotters Popcorn Machine.
For the animated series, the Globetrotters “trotted” the world to
shoot hoops against opposing teams ranging from the blue ridge mountain
ranges of America’s south to the snow-capped mountains of Europe. This
series also added two fictional characters to the Globetrotter camp:
Granny, a kindly old lady that drove the team bus, and her pet,
Dribbles the dog.
NBC’s Go Go Globetrotters was a two-hour program that ran reruns of CBS' animated The Super Globetrotters.
